<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">This research is attempted to analyze text reading from two different textbook publishers, Erlangga and Yudhistira Ghalia in the first grade of Junior High School. Those two textbooks are designed based on Curriculum 2013. The analysis is focused on the three aspects of Systemic Functional Linguistics; ideational meaning (transitivity), interpersonal meaning (mood structure), and textual meaning (theme-rheme). Those three aspects are used to analyze the contents of text reading in those two textbooks. In addition, clause complex, nominal group and lexis are used to find out the readability of those two textbooks that used by Junior High School students. These data analyzed by triangulation method. To analyze the data, the researcher used domain analysis, taxonomy analysis, componential analysis, and theme- culture analysis. The finding showed that content of reading text in Erlangga’s book is more detail in describing an object than Yudhistira Ghalia’s book. It can be concluded that Yudhistira Ghalia’s Book is more difficult and complicated for students of Junior High School than Erlangga’s book.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">To prevent the spread of Covid-19, online learning or LFF is implemented. LFH shifted formal education practice from the classroom (on-site) learning to online learning. All subjects in schools are conducted online, including English subjects. One of the software applications that can assist in English teaching and learning online was Learning Management Systems. One LMS that can be used as a learning platform is Moodle. The friendly tools that Moodle offers help students to adapt quickly to this platform. However, with this sudden shifting between offline to online environments, the students need to adjust without maximum preparation. Therefore, in implementing Moodle, the teachers should know students' readiness and perception of using Moodle as an English learning media. In this research, the researchers apply survey research that explores students' readiness and perceptions towards the use of Moodle in learning English during the pandemic Covid-19. The instrument uses the questionnaire, and the participants are 100 students of SMK Yadika Bandarlampung. The result of this research shows that students of SMK Yadika Bandarlampung are ready to implement Moodle as their English learning media. They also had a positive perception toward Moodle during their time using Moodle. However, the students still face some problems such as connection and internet data, which often becomes a barrier for them in following Moodle activities.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">This study aims to examine how the process of growing in grief affects the personality of the main character in “When Marnie Was There” film. This study employed a descriptive interpretive method to get a descriptive exposure in writing from the film. The findings show that “When Marnie Was There” film depicts a child who is experiencing feelings of alienation and disconnection. A variety of emotions, such as grief, are real-life experiences that are portrayed in the dialogue between the characters and in incidental events. This life experience is mirrored in the four stages of the multifaceted grieving process. In conclusion, as the main character passes through the four stages of personal growth and healing—which are represented in the scenes and utterances—and experiences a spectrum of emotions, the main character’s journey demonstrates the complexity and multi-dimensional of grief. “When Marnie Was There” film offers a moving examination of identity, loss, and the role that acceptance and friendship may have in a child’s grieving process.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">AbstractIn this ever-changing modern age, EFL educators are still in search of more meaningful speaking learning enterprises by which second language learners are strongly encouraged to endure various L2 communication practice hurdles to transform into more proficient speakers. One of the promising ways to actualize this speaking-learning aspiration is through the use of digital storytelling. Previous researchers believed that digital storytelling could potentially promote a higher degree of speaking learning enjoyment where EFL learners’ speaking competencies can thrive to the utmost potential. This present small-scale library study was initiated to exhaustively investigate the positive influences of digital storytelling on EFL learners’ speaking skills improvement. To release this main study objective, the researcher conducted a thematic analysis of 25 previous digital storytelling and speaking studies to generate more relevant and comprehensible research results. Based on the thematic analysis, the constant utilization of digital storytelling was proved to transform EFL learners into more insightful L2 speakers and promote a psychologically sound speaking learning atmosphere in which their targeted L2 communicative competencies can be fostered to the fullest development. Future researchers need to include broader English language learning scopes and a greater number of reviewed digital storytelling investigations to generate more rewarding research results relevant to the applicability and feasibility of online learning platforms in modern EFL learning enterprises. Keywords: digital storytelling, speaking skills, library study</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Era 5.0 or Society 5.0 is a human-centered technology-based era that aims to create convenient and efficient living circumstances and provide further innovation in the life sustainability area. Era 5.0 is visualized as capable of creating a multinational society, whether in business, social, and educational environments. Thus, English should be noted as a crucial matter needed in communicating and takes part in living within era 5.0 in the future. The current research was conducted because of the limited exploration in the previous study that discusses online game VRChat as a learning medium to enhance students’ English speaking ability. Therefore, this paper aims to fill the gap by investigating and exposing the VRChat game’s value as a learning medium to improve students’ ability to speak English. Mixed method research was applied in the current study to analyze and ensure the VRChat game’s advantages for enhancing students’ speaking ability. Moreover, interviews and testing were used as the instrument in this research. A random sampling of four students who have done taking the FLSP (Foreign Learning for Specific Purposes) course as the current study’s subject. Additionally, the analysis was done using descriptive statistics and hierarchical charts using Nvivo 12 plus. This study showed the use of VRChat games as a learning medium increased students’ ability to speak English, specifically on their accuracy and fluency. This research implies that the VRChat game can support English teaching as the learning media, especially in speaking subjects.</dc:description>

The visual media are posters that effectively disseminate information and mobilize support through social media platforms. This research uses a qualitative method, by analyzing five selected posters taken from the pinterest platform that reflect the campaign theme. Using Charles Sanders Peirce's trichotomy of object regarding icons, indexes, and symbols, this analysis reveals how each poster uses different visual elements to communicate a comprehensive narrative. The analysis showed that of the five posters studied, a total of 9 icons, 8 indexes, and 7 symbols were identified. The conclusion of this study shows that the combination of visual representations and symbolic meanings in the posters serves not only as a communication tool, but also as a powerful act of support for the liberation of Palestine.

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">This research investigates the impact of school-based English clubs on language skill development among Indonesian high school students, addressing the educational gap in English proficiency as an impact of globalization. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, the study engaged 21 active members of a combined English club at Benteng Rotterdam, Makassar, employing online questionnaires and focus group discussions to gather data on participants' experiences and challenges. Findings reveal that participation in English clubs significantly enhances students' speaking, listening, and reading skills, with 81% of students reporting increased confidence in speaking. However, challenges such as inconsistent program implementation, pronunciation difficulties, and limited vocabulary retention were identified. This study contributes to the understanding of extracurricular language learning by highlighting the effectiveness of English clubs and offering recommendations for improving their implementation. Insights gained from this research can inform educators and policymakers in designing more effective language learning environments that support students’ needs and foster equitable access to language education. </dc:description>

<dc:subject xml:lang="en-US">negotiation of meaning, teach grammar, language awareness</dc:subject>
<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">In traditional classes, teachers teach grammar in a deductive way with meaningless activities. The activities do not emphasize the uses of English in real life and lack of communication among teachers and students. Language awareness might give the students a challenge to pose questions and encourage them to explore themselves on how language works. The teachers might be able to encourage the students to participate to lead them to get communicative skills by using negotiation of meaning. This article is intended to explore and analyze the students’ mistakes when negotiating meaning in the language learning process. The qualitative descriptive research was employed in this study with 33 students in senior high school as the subjects of the research. The data were from the students’ interviews and recordings. The finding revealed that the students produced mistakes in grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. It showed that the extent of the students’ awareness in responding to a mistake in the negotiation of meaning was low. It was only 16 incorrect utterances that might be corrected by the students. It was divided into two sides, willingness and unwillingness to correct. Factors were affecting the students not to be aware during interaction such as focusing on meaning, the same proficiency level, and condition of the class.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">The three learning stages in a Flipped classroom have allowed the teachers to provide videos by creating them themselves or downloading them from other resources. Through multimodality, the present study explores a video that is considered suitable to apply in the pre-class activity stage. The multi-track analysis was adapted to seek verbal and non-verbal elements of the video for flipped classroom process. The result indicated that the doctor's semantics and gestures depicted the patient-centered model. Although minor errors existed, they became an unseen flaw of the video. Furthermore, it is suggested that medical English teachers use the video as a pre-class activity to show the ideal model for teaching doctor-patient communication. </dc:description>

The level of autism of each individual is varied. It can range from mild to severe. Due to this condition, the person shares some symptoms of the difficulties with social interaction. To make them involved in social interaction, it needs special effort to make them be able to speech or communicate first. For this reason, there should be the use of the combination between verbal and non-verbal communication. Thus, this study attempted to investigate the process of using both kinds of communication in teaching children with autism since children are easier to be threated than adults. To make the distinct result, the participants were from different level of autism. Then, based on the observation and interview, the findings showed that the verbal and non-verbal communication used by the therapist in teaching the autistic children can enhance their social interaction and communication skills.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Vocabulary is part and parcel of learning of a second or a foreign language. This study examined the effect of vocabulary learning through translation of English words (Persian equivalents) and the use of English synonym on the retention and retrieval of vocabularies. Static-group comparison design was utilized to scrutinize sixty EFL learners split into two groups. The experimental group was instructed on the memorizing strategies and the control one left alone to memorize words presented in class in a week time span. The experimental group being taught on coding, interim device, and visual imagery strategies was assayed on spot by dint of written word recognition tests for their receptive knowledge of synonyms written on the board. The findings of the matching test tasks divulged that the learners’ recognitions of synonyms than the first language equivalents were significantly higher. The experimental group significantly scored higher in the recognition test of synonyms than that of translation equivalents. Results have practical implications and application for foreign language learning and teaching which are discussed.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">This qualitative research aims to describe the challenges faced by student teachers from the English Department during the Kampus Mengajar program and the strategies they employed to overcome those challenges. The study utilized a qualitative method with a case study approach to conduct an in-depth investigation. The research involved four participants, with two enrolled in Kampus Mengajar Batch 6 and the other two in Batch 7. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the participating student teachers and supporting documentation. Thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke was employed to analyze the data. The findings revealed that participants encountered several challenges while teaching English to young learners, which were categorized into challenges arising from the school environment and those stemming from the student teachers themselves. The study also identified various strategies used to address these challenges, including self-management strategies, strategies tailored to student characteristics, and varying teaching strategies. Additionally, the findings suggested that student teachers require guidance from lecturers to ensure that the strategies they implement align with the demands of Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) coursework.</dc:description>

The data in this study was collected quantitatively with a survey involving 40 students from various semesters in the English study program at Tidar University. The results showed that using TikTok helped students in some ways and harmed them in others. In favourable terms, 54. Seventeen per cent agreed 'strongly' with the proposition that 'TikTok is a source to access relevant and interesting information easily', recognizing the truth of digital communication and content that appeals to Generation Z. Some respondents had a negative attitude towards TikTok. Some respondents had a negative attitude towards TikTok, stating that TikTok can make students lose focus and contribute to procrastination, which is a hot issue in the modern world, namely the problem of time management in the educational framework. This study proves that using TikTok creates a dilemma between risks and possibilities for Generation Z students in educational settings. Considering the advantages and disadvantages of using TikTok in learning and teaching, students and educators should better understand the subject matter and find ways to use TikTok effectively to complement the learning process and simultaneously prevent negative implications. These guidelines are necessary to bring out the instructional facilities of TikTok and prevent the disruption of the learning process.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">The forced marriage and the arranged marriages theme currently become popular in literary works on millennial applications. The facility and privilege of the internet were virtual spaces that were not only a provider of reading materials but also a place for literary production itself such as Wattpad. My Lecturer My Husband, one of the famous Wattpad novels published in 2017, was the work of a Korean boyband fan from Indonesia named Gitlicious (pen name) who idolizes a Korean artist named Lay from the Exo group. In 2020, My Lecturer My Husband was adapted by a well-known producer, Monty Tiwa, into a web series that identified forms of female resistance and the negotiation process of men in forced marriage. Thus, this study aims to analyze forced marriage that reconstructs the negative stigma in Monty Tiwa's adaptation of Gitlicious’s My Lecturer My Husband. This study used the adaptation theory proposed by Linda Hutcheon (2006). To dismantle the ideology of the text, this research used the theory of Butler(1990), which was about the diversity of gender and sexuality expressions. From the results of the analysis, it was found that My Lecturer My Husband reflects the shift in the value of forced marriage contextually and commercially. Ideologically, the text adaptation of Monty Tiwa shows a shift in the stigma of forced marriage attached to the role of parents and a shift in the expression of husband and wife in forced marriage.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">This study explores the role of appraisal systems within student-teacher interactions in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, focusing on how these linguistic resources shape the educational experience. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through classroom observations, audio recordings, and semi-structured interviews with EFL teachers and students in Majalengka. The analysis, grounded in Systemic Functional Linguistics, identified key patterns in the use of appraisal language, including expressions of attitude, engagement strategies, and graduation. The findings reveal that positive appraisals significantly enhance student engagement and motivation, while the strategic use of engagement and graduation in feedback helps create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Teachers' positive attitudes and validation of students' contributions foster a sense of belonging and confidence among learners. Conversely, negative appraisals, though less frequent, can adversely affect student morale and participation. This research highlights the critical role of nuanced and supportive communication in EFL education. It offers practical insights for educators to refine their interactional strategies, emphasizing the importance of positive reinforcement, inclusive engagement, and calibrated feedback. The study underscores the need for further research to explore appraisal systems in diverse educational settings and their long-term impact on student outcomes. By bridging the gap between linguistic theory and educational practice, this study aims to contribute to the enhancement of pedagogical approaches in EFL classrooms.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">English public speaking anxiety is a crucial issue experienced by students and it needs to be coped with acknowledging the importance of public speaking proficiency concerning today's demands. As EFL students, many studies have found that they encountered a considerable level of public speaking anxiety in which significantly affects their speaking quality. Therefore, measuring students' public speaking anxiety is essential since it can help both the students and teachers to know the level and primary causes of public speaking anxiety so that effective strategies can be designed to overcome this particular issue. Hence, the researchers attempt to investigate the level and primary causes of EFL students' public speaking anxiety. This present study participated by 34 third-semester students of the English Department at Universitas Tidar. In collecting the data regarding the public speaking anxiety level, the researchers used the Public Speaking Class Anxiety Scale (PSCAS) proposed by Yaikhong & Usaha (2012). Furthermore, the results from the questionnaire are delineated to explore the causes of public speaking anxiety. The study found that 58.8% of students experienced a medium level of public speaking anxiety. In addition, most of the students agreed that fear of negative evaluation becomes the major anxiety-provoking factor following by communication apprehension and test anxiety—lastly, only almost half of the students’ experience comfort in speaking English.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">This study looks at the lecturer's linguistic style when delivering material on literary criticism. In this instance, the emphasis is on the stylistic analysis to expose the usage of figurative language and its role in the dialogue between the lecturer and the students. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the figurative language used by a lecturer in a literary class. This study employs the qualitative technique and selects a participant based on the requirements of having a master's degree, having 10 years of teaching experience, and being recommended in order to have an in-depth talk. The data, which are expressed as words, phrases, or sentences, are acquired from audio-video recordings of spoken speech. The recording was made during a lecture in a classroom to obtain an actual situation of the recordings. Furthermore, this study discovered twelve types of figurative language used by the lecturer: metaphor, simile, personification, apostrophe, metonymy, synecdoche, symbol, allegory, paradox, irony, hyperbole, and litotes. Also, each figurative language has a function to convey a particular meaning; comparison, association, and contrast. In addition, the results demonstrate that through the use of figurative language, the lecturer has more alternative ways to expand on the learning subject in the classroom and to enhance students' awareness of stylistics in the form of figurative language.</dc:description>

Thus, people are used to work with it to lighten their jobs, including education, such as delivering/learning material through multimedia, online teaching and learning, etc. It is line with the result of preliminary study that 56% students of English Literature at Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia (UTI) said their lecturers used more technology in class. Thus, the researchers used classroom action research in order to know whether the use of technology does not only help the lecturer in delivering material in a class but also improve students’ international culture understanding in English class. To collect the data, the researchers used observations, tests, and questionnaires. The subjects of this research were second semester students of English Literature at UTI. The finding showed that students’ international culture understanding improved after each cycle. Improvement was also seen based on the result of observations that students showed positive behaviour during the teaching and learning activity.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">The vast amount of online information demands readers to check its credibility since fabricated information has widely been misused and also supported by a lack of filters in web-based sources in ensuring its quality. In practice, checking the credibility of an online source is not an easy task to do as searchers need to consider several aspects in its application. This happens due to some factors, such as language and searchers’ willingness in identifying the quality of online information. This paper focuses on the evaluation of online sources' credibility covering scholars’ definitions of online sources credibility, English-native and foreign searchers’ perspective in judging online sources, and varied criteria applied in online sources credibility in which give insight for readers about this issue and provide references for further study. </dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">PMM or Platform Merdeka Mengajar (Merdeka Teaching Platform) is the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology ‘s 15th episode of Merdeka Belajar Policy to accompany the Emancipated Curriculum. It is a software application to be installed conveniently on teachers’ androids , functioning as teachers’ learning resource to improve their teaching performance the way the Emancipated Curriculum prescribed it, a means to share best practices , and lately a media to plan and carry out their annual work performance to be examined by the authorized body, as far as they have the belajar.id account to log in. However, beside remote distance and unavailability of internet which require infrastructure solution, bipolar demography of the teachers i.e. the digital native and digital immigrant teachers also leads to slow pacing progress use of PMM. This research was conducted to find out whether PMM gave positive influence on the teachers’ Teaching performance . The adapted TPACK self-assessment instrument was spread to 60 teacher members of Learning Community of SMKN 2 Kalianda , and structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to investigate the relations between those adapted TPACK subscales. The result showed that in the context of Teacher Learning Community at State Vocational High School 2 Kalianda , PMM digital technology (TK, PK, TPK) gave positive influence on the teachers’ teaching performance in terms of integrating technology in their lesson plans, learning materials, learning media, learning activities in terms of learning approach, learning strategies and learning models, and various stages of learning assessments as well as their professional development on their teaching major (TPACK).</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Reading simply can be defined as a process to understand and get information from a text. Cohesion is the meaning relation that appears within the text in order to build connection among the different parts of the text. Understanding the cohesion can bring the students to get good comprehension in reading. Therefore, in this research, the researchers want to prove that students cohesion understanding can be correlated with students reading comprehension. The purpose of this research is to investigate and to find out the correlation between EFL Learners cohesion and their reading comprehension. The subjects of this research were the fourth semester students at English education department of State Islamic Institute of Metro in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. To investigate and calculate the correlation between those variables, the researchers applies Product-moment Pearson- correlation. The result of data analysis shows that r observed for correlation between cohesion understanding and reading comprehension is 0.728, after considering the Product Moment table by using df 30 it can be found that the critical value of r Product Moment for the 5% level is 0.361 and for the 1% level is 0.463. The data confirmed that r observed is higher than r table. Therefore, it can be inferred that there is a positive and significant correlation between the students cohesion understanding and reading comprehension among the fourth semester students at English education department of State Islamic Institute of Metro in the Academic Year of 2019/2020.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">The aim of this research is to integrate character education by comprehending the plot in Guy Maupassant's The Story of a Farm Girl. Through an analysis and discussion of the novel's narrative, it becomes evident that the story follows a progressive plot structure. The stages, commencing with exposition and culminating in resolution, vividly illustrate this progression. In the exposition phase, characters and impending conflicts are introduced, while rising tensions materialize as Jacques breaks his promise to Rose upon discovering her pregnancy, subsequently fleeing. As Rose's pregnancy becomes conspicuous, her fears escalate, prompting her to remain hidden until childbirth. Although Rose weds her master, he remains unaware of her child. Ultimately, Rose reveals her concealed truths to Mr. Valin. Employing a descriptive analysis methodology, this research underscores the implications of plot analysis in The Story of a Farm Girl for character education in schools. It emphasizes the scrutiny of content and language, thereby fostering ethical growth alongside literary comprehension. </dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Speaking is a part of spoken and productive skills. In oral communication, the speakers and listeners are actively involved in the message. The speakers transfer a message in the appropriate language, and listeners have to interpret the message. Brown (2004) defines speaking as a productive skill that can be directly and empirically. In teaching speaking, lecturers should have a proper technique to enhance the students to be more active in the speaking class. Therefore, teachers need some appropriate techniques face that condition. Jigsaw is one of cooperative learning method that will help the students gain the information not only by reading the materials, but also sharing and discussing with their friends. Jigsaw consists of several groups, in which every group consists of several students who have various in ability, gender, religion and race. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of Jigsaw, the supporting factors in Jigsaw, and the teacher’s obstacles in implementing Jigsaw. In conducting this study, the writer applied descriptive qualitative research as the research design because it described the phenomena that exist in the Jigsaw implementation. The data are collected in the form of words. The reseacher used observation and interview to gain the data. Based on the result that concluded, there were 3 important points. First, choosing material, making lesson plan, organizing Jigsaw in classroom, giving quiz, and evaluating were the steps in implementing Jigsaw for speaking class. Then supporting factors were media, professional teacher, situation surround the class, material, student’s motivation, and class management. Third, limited time and different level of student’s comprehension were the obstacles that faced by the lecturer. In conclusion, Jigsaw was recommended for teaching Speaking, because it gained the students to be more active and interactive in teaching and learning process.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">The encompassing goal of the Intensive English Course at Universitas Billfath is to help students improve English skills so that they can pass the standardized English test. In practice, however, this expected goal could not be effectively achieved because of truancy issue and pandemic situation. In this scheme, blended learning is a thoughtful enhancement of learning experience with the incorporation of online technology which can offer flexibility of learning and social interaction to enhance learning. Moreover, as a kind of blended learning technology, a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) can afford students with flexibility and opportunities to work collaboratively. Thus, this study is an attempt to propose an incorporation of blended learning approach into the existing classroom sessions in the Intensive English Course at Universitas Billfath. Since the proposed blended learning is a novel learning experience in this context, there may be several issues which remain significant to take into account. Further, it is also important to assess the effectiveness of the use of VLE in this blended learning design, so it warrants an evaluation to embark on the constructive review of how this kind of blend can enhance the English learning by developing its potentials and improving its imperfections.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">In 2020, novel coronavirus or Covid-19 spread rapidly via international air travel from China to many cities across the world, and it is resulting in over a million cases of infections and deaths. In Indonesia, as the virus invaded the community so did fear. This paper used a case study to investigate teachers’ experiences of the role played by digital technology. The interview and questionnaire results showed that teachers were faced with the challenge of using digital technology to provide an education that would reach beyond school walls into the homes and computers of Indonesian students. Teachers had to re-think their teaching strategies and provide their students with new and different opportunities to work through curriculum requirements. Covid-19 provided a catalyst for the intense use of ICT in ways that had not been anticipated or prepared for. The plunge into ICT was a voyage of exciting discovery for some and frustration for others. Either way, it had an impact on subsequent perceptions of the potential and shortcomings of ICT in education in Indonesia.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">English has become one of the most important languages in the world. This makes English a competency that is very necessary in today’s global work or educational institutions. However, many of us have limited access to learning and developing our English language skills. Therefore, this paper aims to find out the perceptions of students at one of the Islamic universities in East Java, which requires students to stay at a university boarding school that has an International Day program as a medium for developing students’ English skills which it is also aimed to be the requirements for the students graduation from the university boarding school. To achieve the objectives of this research, interview analysis was used to describe their perceptions regarding the implementation of the program. This research also used a qualitative approach with direct interviews with 5 students from different educational backgrounds. The results of this research figured out that some students only regarded the International Day program as a form of formality for the university boarding school graduation. However, there are also those who use this program as a murajaah for their previous English language skills and as a medium for developing English language skills. Apart from that, this research also highlights the existence of a gap between students’ expectations and reality regarding the implementation of the International Day program, and it was found that there is a quite big gap regarding this. So, it is necessary to evaluate the implementation of the program in terms of intensity, rules, and supervision, as well as additional support for each student, so that students can be more active in carrying out the program. Overall, this research provides insight into the students’ perceptions of English language skills development programs and emphasizes the importance of aligning program implementation with the students’ expectations for better future outcomes.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Due to the importance of providing learning environment that suits the students’ preference in learning a language, many studies have been conducted on the learning strategies employed by the students. Doro and Habok (2013) investigated the learning strategies of Hungarian young students learning English as a foreign language. The instrument they used was the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) for adult. It was statistically found that the instrument was reliable and worked well with the young learners. Another result of the study was that meta-cognitive strategies were the most frequently used while compensation strategies were the least frequently employed by the students. The study also discovered that female students showed higher frequency of learning strategy use. I conducted a similar study on Indonesian young students and tried to compare the result. There will be, however, difference in the instrument to collect the data. After consulting an English teacher who teaches young students, I decided to use the modified SILL for Taiwanese children by Lan (2005). This is due to the consideration that Indonesian students might not be able to fill in the complex questionnaire as in the adult version of SILL.The findings show that Meta-cognitive strategies as the most preferred group of the six strategy categories have exactly the same means of both Doro and Habok’s and my studies i.e. 3.2 and female students appeared to use language learning strategies more frequently that male students.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Numerous efforts have been undertaken by not only government but also other institutions in order to reach the goal of enhancing teacher professionalism. Pre-service and in-service trainings are the examples. However, there is actually a need to see teacher’s perception towards the effects on joining such trainings and see what issues emerge related to the trainings. This paper attempts to answer all these needs by giving the results of interview with vice principal of curriculum, English teachers, and students of SMKN 3 Malang. This research employs narrative inquiry research. The research uses interview to collect data from the vice principal of curriculum, three English teachers, and students who are taught by the teachers. The results showed that pre-service and in-service training give positive impacts on the professional development of the teachers at SMKN 3 Malang. Issues related to the trainings appear into some forms. Teachers’ unpreparedness in teaching vocational school students due to the lack of trainings about ESP that should have been actually taught more at university. Therefore, it is apparently important for government or universities to provide more pre-service trainings for student-teachers, not only about teaching general English, but also English for special purposes. The researchers also perceive that it is not exaggerating for vocational schools to give more trainings on ESP for the teachers before they are hired. Also, the teachers worry about the correct format of recent curriculum and lesson plan taught on some in-service trainings.</dc:description>
